Observation: While in jail, having been shackled to the walls, an earthquake shook the prison and all of the doors were opened and everyone's bonds were unfastened. The guard had been asleep, and awoke to the doors open and he was about to kill himself. The passage focuses on the jailer and his family, yet it is clear there were other prisoners who were there and did not leave.
Application: Wherever and whenever God moves at our behest, others see it and are drawn to it. They stick around to see what happens, to investigate further. Be aware that non-believers are watching our response to God's work, and be sensitive to the opportunity to point the way to Jesus for them. Often times, the unexplainable things are the best way to point people to Jesus.
Prayer: Daddy, thank You for the cross, thank You for sending Your son. Let me see the big picture as You are working all around, and be aware of bystanders that I might share the good news with. Amen!
