How easy it can be to forget, that He chose to Love us in the midst of all of our sin. That word "propitiation" simply means payment, or atonement. Remember that He loved us first, and that we also are called to love not only God but to love one another. Just as God loved us and paid the price for our sin, while we were at our worst and covered in filth, we too should love one another through all of it...sin and all....and consider not the price that it costs us, for His cost was infinitely greater. Let us not lose hope in the salvation of others and thereby limit God in our own mind, but rather look to the possibilities that will be when we stand in faith and obey.
