Disciplining Thor

Proverbs 3;11-12

11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,12 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.
I often find that the Lord's discipline is difficult to understand unless understanding is sought after.  This isn't really a surprise, as there are many life lessons that can be missed unless means of application are looked for.  The good news comes in the fact that we are being disciplined.  Just as we discipline our own children in an effort to keep them from harm (emotional, physical, etc) God disciplines us because He knows what is best.  God knows all the outcomes, He knew them before our own story even began, and like any author, He knows exactly how our story ends and what plot lines we have yet to endure to get to our final destination. 
 I watched the movie "Thor" yesterday at the recommendation of a co-worker.  The underlying theme of the film was that Thor had to learn humility and selflessness in order to regain his power and one day be a good King.  This Passage in proverbs is like a paraphrase of that theme. God knows where he wants us to be, who He needs us to be, and what it will take to get us there.  He will do whatever it takes for us to come to that understanding.  God doesn't do it to be mean, He doesn't do it because it will make us unhappy, He does it because He loves us and knows what we will become.  He knows that it is a far better path than any we would have ever chosen for ourselves.
